My Mother’s Story: North Vancouver asked the women of North Vancouver (City and District) to write the stories of their mothers which have become the basis of a professional show created for Presentation House Theatre in 2012. Socials groups, books clubs, church groups, or even groups of friends have taken the challenge of writing and sharing mother stories with one another. Sixty stories were submitted. Eight stories, which represent the cultural mosaic of our city, have been chosen and fashioned together into a play that will tell the broad story of where we come from. And a book, telling the full lives of all the mothers’ stories submitted, is being created.
These stories are about how women have lived, not about how good any of them were at mothering. The mothers come from all over the world, had all kinds of good and bad experiences, and together we see the story of women’s lives of the 20th century, with a very North Vancouver perspective!
